    Default moving to Torrevieja??

hi there-i am new to the forum but have been follwing it for a few weeks and reading as much as possible to research for our planned move.

everyone seems so helpful i thought i would try asking a few questions as i hate not being organised and wont make the move til i feel i have done my research properly

we are wanting to move to the torrevieja area or anywhere near depending on schools. i have a 13 year old daughter and want her to attend state school for better integration but not so far out that we have no-one to communcate with as although we are learning spanhish we are not fluent.

can anyone recommend a good school in the area or any area for her particular age as we would consider other areas if it meant she would attend a good school and settle well.

with regards to work, i am a qualified hairdresser, work at present as an office manager for a marketting company and am doing the TEFL course but not a qualified teacher.

i hope that with enough strings to my bow it could help with fnding employment although i do understand things are not as easy in the respect as they used to be.

we did think about living in CDS and working in Gibraltar as my husband did 18 yearsin the army and is now a security manager.

any advice on the employmenet situation would be gratefully received.

we are coming over with enough funds to see us through for a least a year but as most people we'd rather work and keep hold of as much of our savings as possible.

we have lived abroad before due to my husbands job so know they perils a new move can bring and having put off our move several times due to work commitments we have decided to wait no longer and our house is now on the market.

will be renting when we get there until we know the area we have moved too is definately for us

thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to reply

    Debbie

Hi luvspain-dp, Welcome to the forum and good luck ;-))

Housebythepool knows the area you are looking at well as do CD and ElJefe both whom I'm sure will be along with advice shortly ;-))

hi-thanks to all for your replies.

have had a few chats with eljefe already and have now decided that we want to live in san miguel so our daughter can attend the local state school there.

we are still looking to rent but we will have to be in the san miguel area for her to attend the school of our choice. this is all dependant however on us coming over for a visit and things working out according to our research thus far.

i think from what i have read that playa flamenca is a little too english for us but if i have this wrong, my apologies. we wnat somewhere thats largely spanish but obviously with some ex-pats or i think it could be a very lonely place and san miguel seems to fit our requirements.

we plan to visit in the very near future and see in the flesh whether we have made the right choices as i think there is only so much that you can do online??

    thanks again!!

When you get there, you must visit the local places of interest, such as the nut house.

I was waiting for someone to ask.. It is a bar restaurant without a drinks licence.. It is run by a very large effeminate Spanish Gentleman, who always has young fit lads to help him. To get round the no licence problem, customers pay a couple of euros for crisps or peanuts and get a free bottle of beer given them. It was mentioned on a previous thread, so I'll try to find it.

Hi all, we've just had a loud clap of thunder and the lights dipped. This may be the last message I get to send today! We were planning to go to CAM and CajaMurcia to look at their latest exhibitions, but I think we may put that on hold until tomorrow!

    Sue

PS And guess whose turn it is to take our dog Lisa out for her evening stroll? Damn!
