      Default Demolition at last

      Hi everyone

dreams do come true - after a couple of decades, the ugly skeleton building in Playa Honda is finally being demolished. We're put pictures on Promenade taken as it is happening.

The 'powers that be' have even started work on the long awaited promenade from Playa Honda through Playa Paraiso.

Quite a buzz of excitement down here, never seen so many ex-pats out and about (except for when there's an opening night with FREE food )

Wow , brilliant, at last. I wish it had happened five years ago. I built four apartment blocks at the end of La Manga strip, calles Luz Bahia. As we were showing clients around we were always tempted to point to the right as we passed these monstrosities. They were always an eyesore.
I love La Manga and the Mar Menor and have spent many of a night in sleeping in the middle of the Mar Menor.

Hope you all enjoy the pics, we're trying to give a blow-by-blow account, so the absent owners can enjoy the moment too

The good thing about La Manga strip it is almost an Island. With one way in and one way out. Because of this it is almost crime free. It would be a shame if they ever built the bridge to San Pedro.

latest update on the demolition etc

The Vision newspaper (the little bi-lingual La Manga one) has a 2 page story on the building demolition.

According to them, there will be a controlled explosion at 11.00am on the 11th, with a 500 metre exclusion zone.
Explosives will be delivered under heavy security in the early hours, under control of the Guardia. 50kg of TNT is expected to be needed.

Apart from giving the length and circumference of the dynamite sticks, that is it!

We wouldn't like it either because of the implications to our nature reserve....however a mini-ferry would be nice

Yes, I was reading the report in the paper y/day.Pity it didn't fall completely at one end. Should have got old Fred Dibnah to do it! Still what I can't understand is it said that the environment agency had paid compensation of 12,250,000e and the demolition costs! Why? In Mallorca last week they were demolishing a house on the beach, built over 100 yrs ago, under the 'ley de las costas' act, owned by a Spanish traffic warden and giving her the bill for the 300,000e demolition costs!! There doesn't appear to be any equality in the decision making.
