Hello jayne and bienvenida (welcome in Spanish) to our absolute spain forum!
Villajoyosa is a small town, I haven't been there personally... I'm sure some members of the forum can give you some more insight to Villajoyosa

Hello there, I live in the area. Villajoyosa is very close to Benidorm / La Cala de Finestrat. The beach is excellent and there are many new urbanisations with international population.
It's a 5 min drive to the big Commercial Center "La Marina" where you will find everything. I have no personal contacts to car repair and sale. But in the area are a lot of such businesses. For schools and much more about the area see: Absolute Costa Blanca . Spanish schools are excellent here as many international kids are following the Spanish curriculum. And by the way: I guess your kids will love Benidorm! I would say: Benidorm is becoming a British town. Good luck! |

Think carefully, it is now getting increasingly difficult to earn a living here due to the recession. A lot of people are really struggling!
As regards schools, again do your homework. I´m not sure about further south on the costa but a lot of regions have switched their teaching language in schools from Spanish to Valenciano and your kids will need extra curricular Spanish classes if they´re going to learn the language properly. There are international, private schools which teach in english and spanish and you should maybe investigate them as an option. Liking somewhere you went on holiday to is nothing like living there!!! Open your eyes - living in Spain is no bed of roses and especially if you are having to earn enough money to support a family. |

Mmmmm well my take is there's work to be had if you look around but it may not be in the field you are used to.
Definately do your homework however for me the big upside with spain is the warm weather in the south and the open friendly people....... Come prepared with language skills...........too many people make the move without speaking a word of spanish and then wonder why they face challenges when visiting the dentist or doctor.....yes there are international services but for me a key factor of living in a country is to intergrate with the community. As for the recession.......you will face that in the UK or Spain...... |

There may be work to be had but it rather depends on where you live. Recession is in the UK too but if you´re leaving a job and coming to another country in the hope of finding one...
Another thing to consider, especially when moving to Spain with a family, is that you don´t just need work - you need legal work with a contract so that you get access to the healthcare system (contrary to popular belief, there is NO reciprocal healthcare!) and contract jobs are thin on the ground. The alternative is to set yourself up as "autonomo" (self-employed) which will cost around 240 euros per month in social security payments plus your taxes. Make sure you come here with plenty of money behind you to tide you over until you can get yourself stabilised with an income and rent somewhere for the first year - don´t buy until you´re sure this is the place you really want to be. It´s not all doom and gloom here (and, yes, the sunshine makes things so much nicer than the UK) but come with your eyes open. I´ve seen too many people move here with unrealistic expectations and then end up moving back to the UK. |

I definately agree about coming with enough money.....I would say ensure you have enough behind you to live for a year...its better to be well prepared.....Yeah sadly the UK gives NHS care to EU nationals but spain is more selective these days........you don't pay in you don't get out.....I think they are breaching an EU agreement but its a fact this is the current state
On the upsite once you are setup and legal you have a great retirement to look forward to. Spain values their pensioners and treats them well (free or subsidised holidays, pensioners club with subsidised food, regular trips.......). There are several ex-pat (now pensioners) living near us who enjoy a fabulous life. Last edited by JazminesII; 26-10-2008 at 16:16. |
