Default Looking for summer job in Barcelona

Hello everybody!

My name is Hana and I´m Czech student, who like to work in Barcelona for a summer. I do have a NIE (NIF) number, because I was working for last 6 summers in Spain - Salou (prov. Tarragona).

The reason why I´m writing here is that I want look for job in Barcelona for a change. I´m speaking english and spanish as well. Im still doing some lessons, because I just love spanish grammar - especially Subjuntivos, Plusquamperfectum and Condicionales :-) (everybody who ever learned spanish, know what I´m talking about).

I´m in a forth grade of university (marketing and social communication), so I´m looking just fort short temporaly job about 3 - 4 month. Maybe some of you can give me advice if is possible to get in Barcelona some treinee program for students or practise work in a company, which will corespondent to my studies.

I´ts quite dificult to looking for job if I can stay only few month, it's not like looking for waitres or barman. Thas why I'm writing here to get some your opinions about situation like that.

I really like Spain ( well I actually know just Catalan district) and I want to get back. Barcelona is very charming city and i love to live there even for couple of month. Thanks for any of your advices or opinions!

P.S. - Fresh news: I've just came back from Rome, where I was celebrating a New Year and I can say, that Italian will understand Spanish, if you dont know Italian! I was talking to few people - mostly ordering coffe and asking few things, but I was speaking only spanish and they understood me.

So study spanish, it may help you in exceptional situations:-)

Hi Hanka,

Welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum

I've moved your post to the Barcelona Forum section.

Most summer jobs in Barcelona evolve around promotion, PR, barwork, etc.

There are many companies offering internships as well but most will probably not pay anything or just a few hundred Euros per month and have you working 8 hours a day.

You have to ask yourself what you actually want, money or experience?

Hi Hanka , I am afraid Greg is right. It may be that you have to choose between money or experience in your chosen field of work.
David and I came out to Spain in May of last year. I am lucky enough to be able to retire early but Dave was eventually able to find work in an English speaking call centre which was the same job he did back in the UK.
I have noticed however that since he got this job from the Loquo site there have been fewer opporunities for employment.
With the downturn in the economy and the increase in the number of native unemployed I fear it will be more difficult for you to find paid employment this time round.
I am sure there are companies that will take you on in the capacity of unpaid marketeer.
But you would have to rely on independant financing from another source.
I wish you all the best

Hi everybody!

Thank you Greg and Keith for your reply.

I am aware of this dificult situation in Spain now. Propably I have chosen bad time :-( Im still thinking about going somewhere else then Spain for summer, but I know I will miss sun and sea.

I want to improve my spanish and english as well, so spain is for me best place to go. Because Ill be finish next year, this summer is kind of my last "student vacationes". And I really dont want to spend it in a Scotish farm picking a strawberries:-) But anyway, Ill be looking for other oportunities, I have plenty of time to decide, at the moment I concentrate on my exams (at least I should be) and we'll see. I'll keep you posted!

For all who is looking for job in Spain - Good Luck!

Hi Hanka!

I spent a summer in Barcelona two years ago and really enjoyed the experience, it was great!

I did a work placement in a cool language school called Camino Barcelona. It's a Spanish school in the city centre and they hire people in summer to do work placement. Apart from administrative duties I spent the time in reception talking to students, it was fun! they do not pay a lot, but it's enough to spend the summer!

if you want to ask me anything, tell me!

would be worth trying any of the British themed Bars down La Rambla, or anywhere else similar in BCN!

Default job in BCN

Hello everybody, so Im in BCN from thursday, and yesterday I had my firt day at work:-) Its bar near metro station Jaume 1. Well, it was quite quick, i do have some more interviews. Finally I have chosen money instead experience, but I have got good hours and I have bought a plan of Museums, so my free time will be filled:-) Now Im looking for some room, nearby. But really I have to tell the rooms are expènsive, very small and not very nice. I do like the old ones I have seen, with joist ceiling and antique furniture, but usually the bathroom is desastre, its far and expensive. For everybody whos coming, count with 300 - 400 euros for small room in center or bigger one but far.
