Default Do people hate Las Ramblas?

On Poll The People: there's a poll to find the Place Not To Go Before You Die!

    It says about Las Ramblas:

the deathly boring living statue street-theatre; the mime artists who swear at you loudly in five different languages if you refuse to give them any money for troubling you with their cretinous clown routines; the artists doing portraits that look nothing like their subjects...

Lol, as a Barcelona fan i'm voting for Venice!

Hi there tasha33333, welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum!

Interesting website! We are definitely big Barcelona fans over here, but you gotta admit sometimes some things down on the Ramblas are too much.... But hey you will surely find something negative about any city!

Maybe you should make your own poll... You can do so on our forum! If you need help just let me know

    Hi everyone,

Actually i agree with both of you, the Ramblas are a little bit too much sometimes...I've been living in Barcelona for 3 months and I am very often on the Rambla. It is really crowded, and there are all kind of people, bad or funny...
And like the Admin said there is at least one negative point in every city !!!

I havn't visited Barcelona for six years, but the Ramblas was always my favourite part of the city. I still rate Barcelona as my favourite city visited.

It's a lot more interesting and lively than Main Street Gibraltar, the mime are artists are better too. We like Barcelona and La Rambla. Wish all the attractions didn't close for the afternoons tho.

as a regualr visiter to the Catalan Capital, i ahve no qualms regarding La Rambla, i ahve visited Barcelona 20+ times and love La Rambla. It can be a bit over crowded and a bit of a risky place in the evenings but so far (touch wood) i have never experienced any problems on la Rambla. The street artists are brilliant and top off what is a great city

LOL! Itīs what other towns call 'the Paseo', a pedestrian stretch with road on either side of it. In Barcelona there are lots of market stalls and street performers there. I quite like it.

Have only been to Barcelona twice. First time in 1994 and I really loved it. I then went back about 3 years ago and was really disappointed. It had seemed very "spanish" in 94 then on the return visit it seemed to have sprouted rather too many Irish bars and fast food places, graffiti all over the barrio gotico which made it seem so run down and the whole city seemed to stink of urine from tourists peeing on any available wall. I unwittingly made that visit during the september festival so maybe the smell of pee isnīt so bad at other times of year but that trip really put me off the city.

I should say that Barcelona does have lots of very nice bits and is well worth a visit! Just go off-season when there wonīt be so many damn drunks peeing up the walls LOL!!!

Maybe the "paseo" type street is peculiar to the east of Spain and you don't have it in the south. I donīt remember seeing one in Salamanca where I spent a couple of months in 1994. Locals did the evening paseo but that was round and round the wonderful Plaza Mayor. If you havenīt been to Salamanca, you should pay it a visit. Itīs a very beautiful city.
