Default Looking for a rustic cottage in the countryside outside Barcelona. (Couple with dog)

    Hi there.

We are Christian & Susanne (33&32 years old), a Swedish couple who are moving to Barcelona on the 16th of May. We are hoping to find a little cabin or small house outside of Barcelona to stay in at least for 6 months. We have a small dog (Jack Russel X Mini Fox 11kg) and we really want to have nature just outside our front door. We’d also love to live close to a beach (lake or sea).

Our dream is to get out of the big city and live in the countryside for a couple of months to experience a simpler life where we can relax and focus on our art (screenwriting, design and painting). Somewhere where we can grow our own vegetables and go for long walks in the woods.

However we need to live close to some sort of public transport so we can go in to Barcelona. Depending on how far it is we might be able to get a moped or a vespa . We are planning on getting our Spanish drivers licenses but until then we need to be able to get to and from the city center by other means.

We’re not looking for a luxurious place. A simple rustic cottage is what we want. As long as there’s a proper kitchen, running water, electricity and working bathroom with hot water. 

If someone can help us out with this dream or can point us in the right direction please send us a message. We’d really appreciate it!!

    Thank you so much!!

    Christian, Susanne & Little Lebowski

Good morning all, welcome to the Absolute Spain Forum. I hope you find plenty helpful information here and enjoy the forum. I am sure some of our members will be able to help with the locaton I am much further south and live in a small urbanisation just outside 2 villages. Something that comes to mind is the dog, have you found out what travel papers /passport is required to bring your dog. Do a search on site for information on queries, check out the 'Guide to Spain' and the 'Spain Business Directory' which are clickable in the thin blue line above. Be sure to come back and ask and let us know how the plan is progressing.

    Good luck.

Hi there Val. We just gave our dog the rabies vaccination and I think that is the only thing we have to do before we send him. We will ship him with a pet carrier so I believe they will take care of all the paperwork.

    Thanks for your thoughts!

    Hello

I assume that your dog has a chip and passport? Hopefully people who know the Barcelona area can advise you further.

He is chipped but he doesn't have a passport. Does he really need one? Wouldn't the chip be more accurate than a passport in showing who he is?

The shipping company would know so I'll have to ask them when I book the flight.

    Thanks!

I personally would do the research myself as to what is legally required. My dog has a Spanish passport and a European one. The chip has be of a certain format they are not all accepted in every country.

I agree with Val that it´s better not to rely on the shipping company! Check this website as well as others: hotdogholidays.com/consejos.php?Idioma=EN.You need to put www before the link (hope this is the correct procedure to pass on web details Val!) Also have a word with your vet about it.

PS It might be helpful to let us all know what the answer is!

Hi Bibbzter and welcome to the Forum. I'm a writer and I live in central Barcelona. Have you actually been looking at any specific locations? When I find some information, I'll send you a private message.
    Best regards

    Spanish Property 2012

    Hi there Valerie.

We haven't been looking into it much at all so far as we've never been to Barcelona before.

We decided on Barcelona because of it's cultural wealth and it being in the center of Europe so we can travel around easily and visit family in Sweden without spending a fortune. It seemed like a good starting point for our new life

I don't want to live in a big city anymore but my wife is probably doing her masters in cultural management in Nov-June so that's why we need to live near Barcelona at least for a while.

What we really want is to get out in the countryside and isolate ourselves from the hectic consumer obsessed world and just focus on ourselves and our art for a while and see how we cope.

The main reason for our post was to find a good place to stay with a dog for a few months while we look for something a bit more permanent and "us".

I mean it's really hard to look for a place to stay when you're half way around the world (We are living in Melbourne, Australia at the moment) and we cant just go to Spain for a few days to check out the surroundings as it cost 2000$ for a ticket :P

We wouldn't mind sharing a place with someone either for the first couple of months either.

Hope that gives some more info on our situation

    C
