Hello,
I will be moving to Barcelona soon.
My work place will be near Martorell. Would it be wise to live near Martorell or near Barcelona?
How difficult is it to survive without speaking any spanish at all?

This is relative... Depends on your survival skillsHow difficult is it to survive without speaking any spanish at all?No, joking aside. In Barcelona the language is Catalan not Spanish. In Barcelona city most people speak Spanish as well. Martorell I have no idea, but I can imagine they are more inclined to their Catalan.

Add on travel time from your home to the station (bus, train, metro) plus from arrival to your place of work... It could take around 60 minutes total. Times two, would be 2 hours commutting everyday... That's 10 hours per week and 40 hours per month.

Hi Yokozuna
I also live in Barcelona, and agree with Greg. I would say that the commuting times might be even longer, depending on what part of Barcelona you were living in.
As far as Catalan and Spanish are concerned, they are pretty different when spoken. When you see them written, you can see many more similarities and recognise more words, because they are sister languages, along with French, Italian, etc.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Valerie
