    Default La Merce

We had been to Barcelona before, but not during the festival. Wow! The experiences of the past two days are lifetime memories. First a flamenco guitar concert at the Palau, followed by stumbling on the Correfoc with its explosions and drumming down Via Laietana. Then on Sunday, first seeing the Castellers in Placa St. Jaume, followed by the topper, the Font Majica and fireworks over Montjuic.
Did anyone else have such a good time! I hope so.

Never been to it, too far north for me. I am glad you had a wonderful time.

Sorry not to see the video. We have lots of photos and you are correct, it is mostly a local event. Placa St. Jaume was absolutely packed with crowds to watch the castellers, who were spectacular. And the sardana dancers in the Cathedral square were truly inspirational in their commitment to a historic, communal art form. We hope to return again.

Default BAM festival at the same time

    Hi there,

I have been to the Mercé festival 3 times now and each time it is so much fun.

At the same time the BAM festival is on. That means that there are 100 of concerts all around the city and also with quite big stages at the Forum. All concerts are for free and it is a mix between Pop, Hip Hop, Folk and Indie music. They alway try to get a quite famous act. For example last year it was the Hives.

Enjoying the culture and great music and all for free. This is one of the best festivals in Barcelona!!!!

    Default And the beach, too!

The season is just right for a dip at the beach as well. We stayed in an apartment near Mar Bella, which is not the most picturesque but the water was clean and warm.
