Default What are the best areas to live?

So its soon going to be time to take some serious decisions around here.. Hi hi hi... I was checking out Barcelona flats recently but have to be honest, I have no idea whats good and whats not... If I'm looking for a safe place to live, where's best? I'm guessing the Raval is not so safe, but what about El Borne, its so trendy... Or should I look more uptown?

I personally prefer uptown, it is cleaner, nicer and generally speaking more residential. Raval, Borne and Gothic are all very highly focused on tourists. Getting a good nights sleep may be easier uptown Oh and also walking home at night is surely safer on perhaps calle Aribau as opposed to calle Hospital...

In my opinion, the best TOP 5 areas to live are:

      SAGRADA FAMILIA
      BORNE
      GRACIA
      EIXAMPLE
      DIAGONAL MAR

I live near Arco de Triumfo (sticked to BORNE area) and i have very good metro comunication, buses, walking to the downtown (ramblas, plaza cataluņa) 12 min walking, lots of restaurants, trendy bars and shops,...

Barcelona has plenty things to offer and i hope that you visit us soon

I used to live in Gracia, which is very nice - little traffic, lots of squares, close to center etc etc, but recently has become a little up itself. I now live in Poblenou, which is much more relaxed, with loads of families living in the area, and the Rambla de poblenou is great to have a beer in the evening, it is like a mini Ramblas without the tourists, plus it is very close to beach. The people are super friendly here, which beats living by Pija sourfaced old women who rattle on about "incivismo" all the time in Gracia. About 20 mins to center on metro though, thats the only thing.

      Hi everyone,

I am Velina and will be soon moving to Barcelona for a masters degree in UAB. It seems quite difficult to be looking for accomodation from abroad, so could anyone please suggest what are the best barrios to live in considering daily travel to the campus in Bellaterra? Or surrounding little towns?
If you also have any tips how to search for a room to rent (website, any agency etc), I would very much appreciate it.

      Thanks all

      Saludos, Velina

      Hi there

If you are going to study at the UAB, the best thing is to find somewhere in the barrios close to the stations on the local train line (FCG) to the University. Grācia is a favourite barrio for students (my favourite too). The top end of Ciutat Vella (Old City) is close to Plaįa Catalunya, where the trains start from. The train runs through some quite upmarket neighbourhoods so Grācia is probably a good starting place.
I am going to PM you with some more information.
      Hope this helps.
      Valerie
