I personally prefer uptown, it is cleaner, nicer and generally speaking more residential. Raval, Borne and Gothic are all very highly focused on tourists. Getting a good nights sleep may be easier uptown
Oh and also walking home at night is surely safer on perhaps calle Aribau as opposed to calle Hospital...
